  • Man's knee fractured in 'vicious' assault

    Danielle Thompson

A MAN'S knee was fractured in 'vicious' attack by a gang of youths outside Five Bury Road.

The 38-year-old man was involved in a verbal exchange with a group of youths outside the shop at the junction of Bury Road and Matlock Road at around 4pm on Wednesday, February 15 - who then assaulted him.

A staff member from the shop managed to drag the victim away before the police and paramedics were called and he was taken to hospital by ambulance where he continues to be treated.

CCTV from the area is being examined and enquiries are on-going in the area. A 16-year-old from Birkdale has been arrested on suspicion of assault in connection with this incident and he will appear at South Sefton Youth Courts this morning (Friday, 17 February).

Detective Sergeant John Fitzgerald said: “This was a particularly vicious assault on a man, who we believe was just going about his daily business. I’m sure the community would agree that this type of behaviour is completely unacceptable and those responsible need to be brought to justice. I believe if you saw this incident, you would remember it and I’d ask anyone with any information to get in contact.”

Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact 0151 777 3094 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
