Students tackle charity walk in memory of Daniel
BUSINESS administration students at West Lancashire College are organising a 14-mile walk in memory of fellow learner, Daniel Wright, who died last year at the age of 19, from complications following a heart transplant.
A total of 20 students have signed up for the circular walk on Thursday, May 25 starting at 10.30am from the Skelmersdale campus in College Way.
From there, the group will head to Appley Bridge, then Parbold before returning to the college.
One of the organisers, 18-year-old Callum Smith, from Ormskirk, said: “Daniel, who was from Skelmersdale, was well liked and was well known around the town. I used to sit by him in college and he had loads of friends.
“I think he had health problems for two years and during this time he must have gone through so much pain but he was a fighter.
“Everyone was really upset when he died.”
The walkers will be raising money for the charity New Start which helps people awaiting heart transplants.
Callum added: “We are organising the event as part of a college assignment and we hope to raise £600. We want the public to sign up to the walk as well. We want to get as many people as possible involved.”
