  • POLICE DAY OF ACTION HELPS REASSURE RESIDENTS

    Tom Martin

POLICE have carried out a ‘day of action’ in Kirkdale to reassure the community following a shooting in the area.

On Tuesday, August 8, patrols were stepped up across the area and officers teamed up with Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service, Liverpool City Council Stronger Communities Team, and housing providers.

They met on Fountains Road to speak to members of the public, provide a visible presence in the area, and deliver letters showing the work being done and the different ways to report crime and anti-social behaviour.

It follows a shooting on Fountains Lane last month when a car was shot at in broad daylight during rush hour traffic.

The day of action was then followed by the introduction of a dispersal zone, which was in operation between 3pm on Tuesday, August 8 until 3pm on Thursday, August 10.

Local Policing Inspector Graeme Rooney said: “The partnership work which took place on Tuesday was a response to a firearms incident in July and I would continue to appeal to members of the public who are experiencing issues with crime and  anti social behaviour  to speak to us, or anonymously to Crimestoppers.

Recent arrests and seizures show that if you provide information, we will act to make the streets safer places to live work and visit.

“The dispersal zone gave us the powers we need to deal effectively with people causing issues of crime and anti social behaviour, and I would urge anyone in the area who has any information about criminal activity in their area to contact 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

“You can also speak to your housing providers or the council. We are all here to help.”
