  • Firm wants to build more than 200 homes in town

    Henry James

PLANS have been submitted to build more than 200 houses in Skelmersdale.

West Lancashire Borough Council has received plans from Gleeson Homes to construct the homes at three sites in the town at Northway, Birch Green Road and Digmoor Road.

In a statement submitted to the council Gleeson state that they have a wealth of experience in creating safe neighbourhoods in areas of “social and economic deprivation” and they want to adapt that principle in Skelmersdale.

The 104 homes at Findon, Birch Green Road, would consist of 37 two bedroom units, 61 three bedroom units and six four bedroom units.

The site was used for residential properties and these were demolished in 2009 and 2013.

The land has become grassed over, however the road infrastructure remains.

The land is in a residential area and there are homes to the south and east of the site, which are beyond Birch Green Road.

The development at Digmoor Road is on a brownfield site, which used to be Skelmersdale Sports Centre. The sports centre closed in 2011 and has since been demolished. This proposed development will provide 72 dwelling homes and will consist of 26 two bedroom homes, 41 three bedroom homes and five four bedroom homes. The homes will consist of both semi-detached and detached properties, some with single garages.

The company wants to build 35 homes at a residential development at Northway. The properties would consist of nine two bedroom houses, 23 three bedroom houses and three four bedroom houses. The properties will be a mix of semi-detached and detached dwellings and some will have adjoining single garages. The proposed dwellings will be two storeys in height.

Each application has been submitted individually and they will be considered separately.
