  • Councillors approve plan to create facility for trauma sufferers

    Henry James

BOROUGH council councillors have agreed plans to convert 192-198 Ennerdale Tanhouse in Skelmersdale from a residential space into an assisted living facility for residents who have suffered trauma or those suffering with mental health issues.

The Tanhouse Community Enterprise in partnership with Birchwood Centre will use the building, and the application was heard by the borough council Planning Committee on Thursday, October 5.

The application, which would be situated in the Ennerdale Housing Estate, is for a four-storey detached building. There is a community centre to the south of the property, and there are two storey residential buildings to the north, east and west.

As part of the proposal there would be an office/therapy room/visiting room on the ground floor.

There would be 1, 4 bedroom flat with associated kitchen and communal living room on the first floor. Council documents for the application stated, “the third and part of the second floor will be for a six bedroom maisonette with the bedrooms on the third floor and the communal/living room and kitchen on the second floor.”

The application had been recommended for approval by borough council officers.
