  • Fundraiser hopes to ‘drive’ up funds for heart charity

    Danielle Thompson

A FUNDRAISER from Formby is aiming to ‘drive’ up funds by once again organising an annual ‘Vans with Lights’ event - which will take place this weekend!

Ann-Marie Appleton is hosting her third event which this year will take place along the Blackpool Promenade to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation. Participants will meet at the Starr Gate (South).

The charity road run will take place in the resort this Saturday (October 14) starting from Starr Gate (South) at 6.45pm and going through to the end of the illuminations (North).

Ann-Marie became involved with the charity in 2014 when the annual Vans with Lights event started and took over the organising of it in 2015. She is extremely passionate about the work of the charity as her step-mum tragically died of a heart attack at just 49 years old.

Last year the event raised £8,000 and so far, donations have already reached £1,929 towards this year’s total!

Hayley Gough from the British Heart Foundation, said: “Determined to raise money for heart research and make a difference, Ann-Marie has worked tirelessly to ensure that the event goes from strength to strength.

“To date Vans with Lights has raised a total of £8,000. The number of participants has risen from 30 in year one to 160 this year.

“Around 54,500 people across Merseyside are fighting a daily battle with heart and circulatory disease. Each year these devastating conditions claim the lives of more than 955 people in Liverpool alone.”

If you would like to get involved or support in any way, contact Ann-Marie on VWL_Blackpool_run@outlook.com or add to the group's donations by searching for Vans with lights 2017 on online donations site Just Giving.
