‘Don’t make it easy for thieves’ plea
KEEP your doors locked and don’t make it easy for thieves!
That’s the message from police at Skelmersdale after officers received reports of burglaries where offenders have been able to gain entry to properties through unlocked doors.
Posting on social media, Sergeant Hesketh from Skelmersdale Police wrote: “Don't make it easy for them!
“How often do you check your doors and windows are locked? When you come home? When you leave the house? When you go to bed? All, or none of these?
“I’ve just finishing reading our monthly burglary report for the division and one thing that jumps out is the number of offences reported where burglars have been able to try their luck, turn a door handle and walk right into people’s home!
“We’ve seen recent CCTV footage where suspects will try numerous doors and simply move on if they’re locked.
(This isn’t news to us, but it’s worth highlighting to give you an insight).
“Whether you’re nipping out, or ‘just in the next room’ – you should keep your doors locked, and keep you and your belongings safe.”
Lancashire Police advise people to close and lock their doors and windows when they go out, even if they are just in the garden.
They should also hide all keys, including car keys and keep them out of sight and away from the letterbox.
