  • Members from Skelmersdale Veteran's Association visit The Edinburgh Military Tattoo annual festival

    Henry James

A NUMBER of members from the Skelmersdale Veteran's Association have visited The Edinburgh Military Tattoo, which is taking place from until August 26. This year the event is celebrating Scotland's history, heritage and archaeology and the impact of the Scots and Scottish culture around the world- and there is a special tribute to the Royal Navy.

Alan Lewis from the Skelmersdale Veteran's Association said: “We all had the amazing opportunity to see different Scottish regiments and bands from across the world plus The Queen's Colour Squadron, Her Majesty's Royal Marines. There was an amazing mix of acts from four continents, with performers from Australia, Canada, South Africa, New Zealand and further afield. The events we visited were a great success.”

Alan Moore, who is ex RAF and a member of Skelmersdale Veteran's Association, had a chance to meet members of the Queen's Colour Squadron. He commented: “It was a fantastic show of skills and those involved marched without a word of command being said throughout the display.”

After completing a four week intensive drill course the gunners of the Queen's Colour Squadron can expect to serve on the squadron for a period of up to three years before retuning to serve within the wider Royal Air Force or Royal Air Force regiment.
