Veterans on parade at civic service
MEMBERS of the Skelmersdale Veterans’ Association attended the Mayor of West Lancashire’s Civic Service held at St Richard’s Church in Old Skelmersdale, joining up with Skelmersdale Brass Band to lead the procession from the Horseshoe Inn.
The veterans carried their colours and also formed an honour guard at the standing room-only event attended by past mayors of the borough, along with civic dignitaries and voluntary groups from throughout Lancashire.
Alan Lewis from the veterans’ group said: “During the day other mayors pointed out how colourful our flags were, asked us about the association and wished us well. We would like to thank Hotter shoes for sponsoring our colours and Skelmersdale Action For Youth for sponsoring the Union flag.”
The veterans also recently received £150 grants from both County Councillor Terry Aldridge and County Councillor Julie Gibson which they will use for activities for members.
Alan Lewis added: “The association would like to thank the councillors for the funding and the support that they have given us .”
