Shotgun thrown into garden after road crash
ARMED police attended an incident in Maghull when a bag containing a shotgun was thrown over a garden fence following a collision between two cars and a van.
Police were called at 1.50pm last Friday (October 6) to a traffic collision on Ormonde Drive, Maghull involving an Audi car, a BMW and a van.
Two men were reported to have run away from the car and discarded a bag over a fence in a nearby garden.
Armed police attended the scene and found a bag containing a shotgun.
The car is believed to have been stolen from North Wales.
Joseph Saunderson, 20, from Pennine Way, Kirkby has since been charged with possession of a firearm and appeared at Sefton Adult Remand Court on Monday, October 9.
As part of the investigation police have also recovered shotgun cartridges close to disused garages on Park Road, Kirkby.
Forensic enquiries are ongoing in relation to the ammunition, shotgun and the suspected stolen Audi which was recovered.
Detective Inspector Robbie Moss said: “Another recovery means one less firearm and ammunition on our streets.
“We urge anyone with information on this incident or the storage and use of firearms to speak to us, so we can continue to take positive action and make your streets safer. We are still looking for any witnesses or people with information to identify anyone else who may have been involved.
“We believe the men ran off from the area of Ormonde Drive and if you were in the vicinity around 1.45pm and saw anything, please get in touch and I can assure you we will act on all information provided.”
