  • Countdown to Concourse Christmas lights switch-on

    Henry James

THE Concourse Shopping Centre will be kicking off the festive season with a bang with the launch of its annual Christmas Light Switch on Friday (November 17).

This year’s event kicks off at 4pm and a host of family entertainment has been organised for throughout the three-hour event.

Luke & Lucy from Wish FM will be the hosts for the evening and will be showcasing local and regional talent.

Meanwhile, headlining the event is Jake Quickenden, who shot to fame in X Factor and I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, and who will soon be appearing in the new series of Dancing on Ice.

And before Jake performs a few of his songs - as well as dropping in a few Christmas hits - he will be joined on the indoor stage by Santa and the Mayor of West Lancashire, Councilor Neil Furey and together they will switch on the lights at 6.30pm.

The Concourse also have on their Facebook page a competition to win a VIP experience on the night, including a meet-and-greet with Jake, free entry into the grotto (along with a free photograph), plus £50 worth of Concourse shopping vouchers.

To complete the evening’s entertainment, there will be a funfair, face painting, crafts, performers, giveaways, and, of course the opportunity to do some late-night Christmas shopping.

Youngsters will also be able to visit Santa’s reindeer who will be situated under the canopy at the rear of the centre by the Western Entrance.; while Santa will be in his magical grotto from 4pm.

The grotto will be located on the upper mall in the old Co-op Travel unit (opposite Thomas Cook).

And as well as November 17, it will be open Saturday, November 18 from 10am to 5pm and Sunday, November 19 from 11am to 4pm. It will then be open every Friday and Saturday from 10am to 5pm and Sundays from 11am to 4pm, until Friday, December 15 when it will open daily.

Car parking restrictions will be lifted on the day of the switch-on.

Anne Peters, interim retail marketing manager at the Concourse, said: “We’re really excited to have Jake Quickenden onboard as our headline act who’ll be turning on the lights, assisted by Santa and the mayor.

“Our Grotto also opens that night so it’s a perfect time for children to put stuff on their wish list and visit Santa. It’s not to be missed!”
