STAFF at a Skelmersdale nursery are celebrating after being rated ‘outstanding’ by the government watchdog on their second anniversary.

Ofested inspectors who visited the Duckling Day Nursery in Daniels Lane, Tawd Bridge on Wednesday, January 9 were impressed on a number of fronts.

The effectiveness of leadership and management; the quality of teaching, learning and assessment; the personal development, behaviour and welfare; and the outcomes for children were all rated as outstanding.

Manager of the centre, Janet Doyle, was noted for being “exceptionally dedicated and skilled” and for sharing her vision with the staff team. And the report added: “Together, in consultation with parents and children, they regularly use a variety of ways in which to carefully evaluate the quality of the nursery and precisely target future improvements. All staff are deeply committed to providing children and their families with early years experiences of the highest quality.”

It was also noted that the quality of teaching is “outstanding” and that staff have an “excellent understanding of the unique ways in which individual children learn.” The report went onto say: “They use their regular, robust and precise assessments, along with their deep knowledge of children’s interests, to plan a wide range of highly stimulating and challenging experiences that superbly motivate children in their learning.”

It was also pointed out that, “the management team and staff carefully monitor the progress that individual and groups of children make. They successfully identify any developing gaps in children's learning and take swift and decisive action to ensure that all children receive the exact support they need to make excellent progress from the time they start at nursery.”

Inspectors also praised, “the bespoke settling-in arrangements and robust partnership working with parents ensures that children settle quickly and are ready to learn from the outset.”

Management and staff at the nursery were understandably delighted by the findings. Janet Doyle commented: “The team are exceptionally dedicated, passionate and committed to providing children and their families with the very best early years provision.”
