Golf ladies on target for Blood Bikers
LADY members of a West Lancs golf club are still ‘on course’ when it comes to supporting good causes - despite falling membership numbers.
And to prove it they have just handed over a four-figure donation to a lifesaving charity.
Angela Scott from the Beacon Golf Club in Up Holland said: “The ladies section has been in existence for more than 35 years and although numbers are dwindling we are still trying to keep it together. One of our claims is that we have always managed to help local charities through members’ generosity.”
Their latest fundraising effort saw them present a cheque for £1,050 to Paul Cull from the North West Blood Bikes, the chosen charity of 2018 Lady Captain, Gill Walsh.
The money was raised through a range of events including a booked and baked sale, nearly-new golf sale, beetle drives, bingo, Easter and Christmas raffles, and captain’s fines for going in hazards and bunkers!
The blood bikers - all volunteers - provide a free but highly professional service, out of normal working hours for the transportation of urgent and emergency items, including blood, platelets, samples, donor breast milk, patient notes and theatre equipment, in fact anything that can be carried by motorcycle!
