  • En garde for beginners’ fencing course

    Henry James

IF you’ve ever fancied trying your hand at fencing but didn’t know how, now’s your chance.

The West Lancashire Fencing Club, based at Edge Hill University, is launching courses for beginners this year for anybody interested in taking up an Olympic sport that has been recognised as an effective form of exercise and offers the opportunity to learn a new skill.

Two five-week courses, starting on January 30 and March 13 respectively, will be held during the club’s weekly Wednesday meetings at the university from 8 to 10pm.

The sessions will be open to anyone over the age of 12 years and will be run by a British Fencing Association qualified coach covering blade techniques, the rules of the sport and, most importantly, how to fence safely.

Further information can be obtained from club secretary, Stephen Hodges, who can be contacted by email at Stephen.Hodges@westlancsfencing.co.uk

For details about the course and online booking visit the club’s website at www.westlancsfencing.co.uk.
