  • Cheers! Pub fair raises £2,750 for Skem Men-Aces

    Henry James

THE Skem Men-Aces have been boosted by a donation of £2,750 - courtesy of Chris Mullen, manager of the Plough and Harrow pub in Up Holland.

The money was raised at a Christmas fair staged at the Ormskirk Road venue and despite some inclement weather on the day, it proved a bumper success.

Carl and Mim Eaton from the Men-Aces said: “We were honoured to have our very first Christmas Fair. Chris pulled out all stops and gave us the entire car park.

“He also cooked some totally scrumptious Christmas food and also served up hot mulled wine and cider.

“Even a deluge of rain couldn’t dampen the spirits and the Men-Aces choir added a personal touch. All in all it was such a happy experience which brought the community together.

“Chris worked hard along with his family and supporters to stage the event and we want to say a massive thank-you to him.”

The money will go towards much-needed tracksuits for the Men-Aces and also to fund any players chosen to represent Team GB in the Euros in Geneva in June.

Meanwhile Chris has invited the Men-Aces to hold a summer fair at the pub and it is planned to feature music to suit all tastes, a BBQ and summer games.

Carl and Mim added: “If anyone can help us out with any tombola prizes - unwanted Christmas gifts, duplicate toys etc. -we would be extremely grateful. We are also looking for someone to loan us a large candy floss machine for the day. If you can help in any way contact us on 07506458716.”
