Owzat for a close up view of the Cricket World Cup!
YOUNGSTERS from a Crosby sports club were bowled over after they were asked to be mascots at the ICC Cricket World Cup!
As the dust settles on England’s remarkable win last Sunday, young cricketers from The Northern Club are still reflecting on their own unforgettable experience after they led out Australia and South Africa when they faced off in their final group game.
In a match watched by 1.5billion people around the world, 28 children representing the Crosby club walked onto the pitch at Old Trafford and stood in front of the players for the national anthems.
They then watched the game from the stands and were thrilled by the action, as South Africa ran out winners by ten wickets in a result which saw Australia then go on to play and get beat by England in the semi-finals.
Not only that, but between innings they were invited onto the pitch to show off some of their own cricket skills to the crowd!
The girls and boys were from The Northern’s Under 11s team, Under 9s and Friday Night Smash sections of the club.
Under 11 player Ethan Warwick said: “It was an amazing day, a chance to take to the pitch where so many legends have played.”
Alex Gillespie added: “It was a really fun day - we took it in turns to smack the ball into the crowd during mid-innings!”
