The award, was presented by Sefton Central MP, Bill Esterson at the Melling Ratepayers Club and is recognition of Mr Carr’s work as a taxi driver, for the work he does training and supporting other drivers and of his contribution to the local community through charity fundraising and as a parish and borough councillor.

Bill Esterson MP nominated Mr Carr for the award and said: “Since I first met Tony Carr, he has been a strong advocate for taxi drivers.

“When I was first elected as an MP in 2010, Tony Carr was organising a charity bike ride by taxi drivers in aid of Help for Heroes. Since then, he has lobbied me and other MPs to protect the rights of the licensed taxi trade and has worked through his union, Unite, on behalf of taxi drivers in the Liverpool City Region.

“Tony is also a parish and borough councillors and works hard all year round on behalf of residents in Melling where he lives with his family and across the Molyneux Ward in Aintree and Maghull as well.

“When I heard about the Parliamentary Taxi Driver of the Year Award, I thought that he would be a deserving nominee and that he had a chance of winning an award and am delighted for him as it is a recognition of the hard work and commitment he puts in.

“Tony is committed to his job, to his customers and to his fellow taxi drivers and is an excellent local councillor as well. He works closely with me and with his fellow parish councillors. Congratulations!”
