Tommy happy with a much-improved display at Masters
SOUTHPORT golfer Tommy Fleetwood had a much-improved performance at this year’s Masters golf tournament.
Fleetwood missed the cut when he made his debut at the event last year, but this year he made the cut and finished tied 17th on four under par – 11 shots behind the winner Patrick Reed.
The 27-year-old played with Tiger Woods for the first two days and the highlight of his tournament was his 66 in the third round, which included five birdies on the back nine and he was tied for sixth after three rounds.
After his third round he commented: “We actually said I wanted to beat the golf course for the first time today and it is a strange feeling to come off the course disappointed with a 66, but it was a great day.
“I played brilliantly all day from the first to the last. I hit really good golf shots when I wanted to and it was just a case of rolling some putts in and the score happened.
“It was a really good day for scoring but you have got to do it and it is not a very easy course, so it is nice to get something going.
“It was good to record five birdies in a row. I just got on a little run and it was good to get the crowd going and nice to climb the leaderboard.
“I enjoyed shooting a low round, and securing a later tee time on the final day.”
