  • Men-Aces shine in tough tournament

    Henry James

TWO sides from the Skelmersdale Men-Aces disability football club competed against teams from across the country at the Wrexham Annual tournament.

Both Men-Aces teams reached the semi-finals of their groups after winning seven out of eight games.

The Group B side were knocked out in the semi after coming up against a strong opposition, but the Group A team reached their final only to go down 2-0 to St Christopher’s.

Men-Aces’ manager, Mim and Carl Eaton, said: “We later found out that St Christopher’s were the Welsh national team and travel the world together but we gave them a game and something to think about. It was a credit that our lads were up there with the best and played quality football.”

Carl and Mim added: People come up to us wondering where we come from and who we are. They can’t believe that a small town team can compete against bigger sides with money and facilities to match.

“Both of our teams worked so hard and battled like gladiators to the end.”
