AS summer has now arrived, there is always the temptation to enjoy a day-out to the countryside.
But why stop there? An overnight stay can make your weekend that little bit more special and there's a hotel perfectly placed to offer just that.
The Plough is in the ideal spot because it sits only a couple of minutes from the M6, perfectly placed for exploring either the Lake District or the Yorkshire Dales.
Our reporter, Tom Martin, decided to find out for himself what the accommodation had to offer.
“After a day spent walking around Windermere, which is only a 25 minute drive from The Plough, we arrived and were greeted by friendly staff who showed us to our room.
“We were staying in the Harrington Room, which is spacious and the exposed beams and antique furniture are nice touches. Views of the adjacent countryside from the bedroom window are the perfect way to wake up in the morning.
“After getting acquainted with our room, we wandered back downstairs to the bar and restaurant, where guests were able to relax and enjoy some quality food.
“The Plough describes itself as a “quirky and sophisticated pub” and you get that impression from the outset. Theblack-and-white signposts in the entrance, giving directions to the toilet and bar, is a useful feature for navigating around the building, but it's also one of many unusual but quirky touches.
“Other features of the eatery include oak floors, low-beamed ceilings, thick walls, lain wooden tables and leather sofas in front of fireplaces.
“It means that although the pub is clearly modern, some of the décor allows for the feeling that it could be put in the heart of the Lake District and not look out of place,
“There is definitely a country-contemporary elegance to the hotel for all type of guests to enjoy, including dog owners who are also welcome.
“Once sat down for our meal, we tucked into a whole baked camembert to start, followed by a succulent ribeye steak and classic beef burger. A few more drinks at the bar capped off a thoroughly pleasant evening at The Plough, which is perfect for a summer night's stay.”
