Small businesses to get £10k grant ‘without delay’ as council works to support local companies

Small businesses to get £10k grant ‘without delay’ as council works to support local companies

by Kenny Parker (March 2020)

WEST Lancs council says it is working to ensure local businesses affected by the Covid-19 pandemic get the financial support that is available from Government – with small businesses to be given a £10,000 grant “without delay”.

The authority’s Business Support Team is working alongside its Business Rates Team to help businesses understand what support is available and they will be contacting all those who are eligible for either of the following types of support from the Government before the end of next week.

Small Business Grant Funding:

- A one-off cash grant of £10,000 to support small businesses that already pay little or no business rates because they receive small business rate relief or rural rate relief. The council says that it will ensure businesses receive these grants without any delay, rather than having to wait for the Government funding to reach local authorities.

Cash grant for retail, hospitality and leisure sectors:

- Eligible businesses in retail, leisure and hospitality sectors with a property that has a rateable value of up to £15,000 will receive a grant of £10,000.

- Eligible businesses and premises in retail, leisure and hospitality sectors, with a property that has a rateable value of between £15,001 and £51,000 will receive a grant of £25,000.

- Businesses with a rateable value of £51,000 or over are not included in this scheme.

If your business is eligible for either of these support grants, follow the instructions in the letter the council has sent to you as soon as possible so it can start processing a payment.

Councillor Adam Yates, portfolio holder for Resources and Transformation, said: "We are continuing to do all we can to support local businesses who are experiencing huge problems due to the coronavirus pandemic. I would encourage all business owners who receive a letter or email regarding the small business grants support to complete the form as soon as they can."

If you think that your business is eligible for either of these types of support but you have not received anything from the borough council, contact its Covid-19 Grant Team via email businesssupport@westlancs.gov.uk or by phone 01695 585050 with as much information about your business as possible.
