A VERY special poet from Formby has been celebrating her 106th birthday during the coronavirus lockdown!
Former teacher Marjorie Hodnett, who lives at Formby Manor on Liverpool Road, is not only a poet but an artist as well and marked her 106th birthday on April 1.
She is from Sidmouth and moved to Formby to be closer to her family in January.
When she was 103, she was awarded an honorary degree - more than 80 years after she completed her college education! She originally studied at Southlands Methodist College. It now forms part of the University of Roehampton and in 2017, staff there have decided the qualification completed by Marjorie and many former teachers was degree standard
Her friend Maggie Flodman said: “She is a remarkable lady who decided in January that she would come up from her home on the seafront in Sidmouth to be close to her great-niece and nephews in the Formby area. Within a week she was up here in Formby Manor, a beautiful new nursing home where she is very well looked after by lovely caring staff.
“She celebrated her special 106th birthday with a special meal with one of her friends at the home, Tom.
“She is a poet, having written several collections from her window in Sidmouth and also an artist. She is a very strong lady who knows her own mind and has no trouble expressing herself!”
