Virtual version of You’ll Never Walk Alone released in honour of the NHS by Maghull Wind Orchestra

by Danielle Thompson (April 2020)

A VIRTUAL version of You’ll Never Walk Alone will be released in honour of the NHS by Maghull Wind Orchestra on Thursday (April 16).

More than 40 musicians have recorded their individual parts of the famous anthem on their own, and one of the band’s trombonists, Christopher Horswood had the challenge of editing them all together to form one uplifting performance in time for the 8pm ‘Clap for carers.’

Christopher Horswood said: “The virtual concert has provided a challenge, mixing the audio separately to the video which enabled some freedom for the levels of different instruments. Individual videos then had to be lined up with the master audio, ensuring all performers were included in the edit.

“It has made me feel humbled that this video is being done as a thank you to the hard-working NHs staff who are doing admirable work during these times.”

Chair of Maghull Wind Orchestra Kate Warriner added: “Both as MWO Chair and working for the NHS I’m really proud of MWO for this amazing version of YNWA dedicated to our NHS friends and colleagues. A poignant message – you’ll never walk alone.

“A number of NHS staff feature in the video including pharmacists on clarinet and baritone saxaphone, a nurse and chief digital information officer on flute and an IT system support worker on trombone to name but a few!

“At Maghull Wind Orchestra we have always had a strong relationship with the NHS. A great many of our members both past and present are current or retired NHS staff and over the years we have supported the NHS through our gift of music on numerous occasions.

“Just last Christmas some of our members went to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital on Christmas morning to share Christmas carols with staff, patients and families – spreading a little festive cheer!

“Our 40th anniversary concert at the Philharmonic Hall in 2018 involved the NHS choir joining with us to create a memorable event for all involved.

“Maghull Wind Orchestra also held a fundraising concert for the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital with the Cantorion Sirenian Singers raising money for specialist equipment as well as holding concerts in aid of Woodlands Hospice and Jospice in memory of a much-loved member of the band, Dave Denman.”

The finished version will be available on Maghull Wind Orchestra’s YouTube channel, as well as on Facebook (MaghullWindOrchestra), Twitter (@MaghullWindOrch) and the orchestra’s website – https://www.maghullwindorchestra.co.uk
