You can nominate an 'unsung hero' to be given a free food parcel

by Danielle Thompson (May 2020)

SOUTHPORT Hesketh Round Table have partnered with food delivery service Knock N’ Drop to ‘say a massive thank you to local unsung heroes’ by giving out free food packs – and you can suggest who is given one!

The SHRT, who are the organisers of Southport Charity Bonfire and Fireworks, the town’s Santa Sleigh and popular Mad Dog 10k race have teamed up with Birkdale friends Cameron Millen and Harry Maitland who set up Knock N’ Drop as soon as the country went into lockdown.

The have already given out 25 thank-you parcels and are now taking nominations for the next round of packs. Nominees need to live in Southport and nominations need to be received by Friday, May 8. The packs will be delivered by the end of May.

Harry Maitland said: “Our nominated heroes have been randomly selected by Roundtable members to receive a fabulous grocery pack as a thank you for all their personal sacrifice, hard work and kindness at this very difficult time.

“These boxes contain fresh fruit, vegetables and groceries, sourced from our local shops, and have been delivered safely and hygienically, directly to front doors, by Knock N’ Drop’s professional team. Over the last few weeks Knock N’ Drop have delivered over 25 boxes - but there are more waiting to be awarded.

“Hero Nadine Baynes has posted this story about her unexpected thank you on the Birkdale Village facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pg/birkdaleUK/posts/.

“The Roundtable would like more nominees, like Nadine, for our local heroes; these could be first responders, doctors, nurses, hospital workers, shop workers, carers, refuse collectors, milkmen, delivery drivers or just good friends and neighbours, who have gone the extra mile in giving support during this fight against the coronavirus.

“All you have to do is think of who you would like to nominate and let them know what you are doing for them.

“If they are happy for you to do so, please send their name, local address and telephone number to SHRT@hotmail.co.uk. Please include your name and let us know the reason why you would like them to be nominated. The Roundtable and Knock N’ Drop will be delighted to do the rest.”
