A VET nurse who splits her time between Birkdale, Formby and Maghull ‘was thrilled but shocked’ to win a national award.

Claire Shepherd of Parker and Crowther Ltd was awarded Vet Nurse of the Year at the 2020 Petplan Veterinary Awards. The winners were announced during a virtual ceremony held on Petplan’s Facebook page on May 28. The event was hosted by author and presenter Gyles Brandreth.

Now in their 21st year, the awards celebrated the nation’s most outstanding vets, vet nurses, practices, practice managers and support staff.

Commenting on her win, Claire said: “I'm absolutely thrilled but also shocked. I would really like to thank all the lovely people who have taken the time to nominate me, it really means a lot.”

Isabella von Mesterhazy, head of marketing at Petplan, commented: “Claire stood out to the judges impressing with her volunteering efforts and exceptional contribution to animal welfare. She puts in copious amounts of time and energy alongside her job, all for the benefit of animals in the community.

“This year we received more than 37,000 nominations from pet owners and the veterinary community and it was great to see so many people coming together online to see the winners announced.

“It felt particularly special this year to be able to say thank you to the veterinary profession who have continued to work tirelessly throughout coronavirus to look after the nations pets.

I would like to congratulate all of the winners on their brilliant achievement.”
