RESIDENTS at a care home in Formby enjoyed winding back the years to the 2008 Wimbledon Final last week – complete with a glass of Pimm’s!
On Monday, June 29, at Woodlands Lodge on Church Road, staff and residents came together for a socially distanced party to watch the 2008 Wimbledon Final, Federer vs. Nadal, which is often dubbed as one of the greatest matches of all time.
Events organiser Lesley Malone said: “We started Wimbledon Rewind month and we were all on the edge of our seats, getting into the true Wimbledon spirit with strawberries and cream and a glass of Pimm’s. We even did the Mexican wave!
“All residents and staff got involved, from those watching in their rooms to those cheering in the lounge, it was a roaring event for all. The room was filled with both fans of Federer and Nadal, all donning their tennis visors - it was as if Woodlands Lodge had been transported onto the famous grounds of Wimbledon itself!
“Throughout the month of July, Woodlands Lodge will be hosting weekly viewings of previous Wimbledon matches to make up for the competition being cancelled this year. They are hoping to have an ‘ace’ summer’s day in the garden, where both staff and residents can participate in their very own tennis match with friends, Pimm’s and more strawberries and cream!
“We are all excited for the upcoming Wimbledon Rewind activities. Not only do they provide lots of entertainment, but they promote socialisation, reminiscence, movement and much more.”
