THE friends of a 13 year old girl who passed away just days after contracting sepsis have taken part in a walk around Tarleton and Hesketh Bank in her memory.

Year 9 Bishop Rawstorne Church of England Academy pupil Lauren Menzies, from Eccleston, died on December 11.

Her family have been raising funds ever since for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool, where she was treated and they have already raised £17,267 with a series of fundraisers. Her mum Sarah, dad Chris, brother Rafe, 11 and sister Leah, nine, have all signed up for challenges.

Now, Lauren’s friends Emily Gautrey, from Hesketh Bank and Emma Joyce, from Tarleton, have raised more than £1,200 for Alder Hey after completing a 20 kilometres sponsored walk.

The three friends knew each other through Inspiration School of Dance, which runs classes in Tarleton, Ormskirk, Burscough and Westhead.

The girls, both 14, wore purple and blue - Lauren's favourite colours - as they walked around the villages for five-and-a-half hours in the wind and rain on Saturday, July 4.

Cars pulled over by the side of the road to donate as the girls continued their fundraising drive.
