A WAR veteran and former councillor from Waterloo has celebrated his 100th birthday.
Thomas Beswarick (shown, right) marked the special occasion on Monday, August 31 and he was grateful to receive many birthday cards from friends and family.
Mr Beswarick, who is originally from Cornwall, served in the Royal Navy in World War Two on a minesweeper.
In 1948 he moved to Liverpool. He was the Mayor of Crosby between 1972/73 and also served as a councillor for Sefton for 25 years as well as take on the role of Justice of Peace, mainly in Southport.
When he was asked what the secret is to a long life, Mr Beswarick told the Champion that he has always looked after himself - and that he also enjoys the occasional glass of whisky in the evening!
