A PET dog was shot dead by armed burglars during a shocking raid at a family home in Litherland.
Two men wearing face coverings and carrying shotguns burst into a house on Bowland Drive on Saturday, September 5 at around 11pm.
One of them pushed a male resident to the floor while the other searched upstairs.
Before they left, one of the burglars shot a French bulldog, fatally wounding the pet, and the pair then fled the scene with a stolen electric scooter.
No one else was injured and police are now asking for anyone with information to come forward to help their investigation.
One of the armed men is described as white, of medium build, and wearing a hooded black jacket, a black scarf covering his face and dark coloured North Face tracksuit bottoms. The second was also a white male of medium build wearing dark clothing and a black beanie-style hat and face covering.
Detective Inspector Paul Parry said: “I am appealing for anyone who was in the area around Bowland Drive at around 11pm who saw anyone or anything suspicious to contact us.
“Similarly I would ask anyone who was driving around the area who may have captured something on dashcam footage to get in touch as they may have information which is vital to our investigation
“No person was injured during this incident but a dog was killed and the actions of these two individuals show they are clearly reckless with no regard for people’s safety.
“Merseyside Police is committed to getting guns and the people who use them off the streets and we want the public to come forward and help us by telling us who they are.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Merseyside Polce or @CrimestoppersUK anonymously on 0800 555 111.
