A DELIGHTED dog owner says that her puppy Tyson has fought the odds and survived a near-fatal ‘freak accident’ in a Birkdale park.
Care agency manager Yaz Mason was devastated when her Chihuahua puppy, Tyson, then just 20 weeks old, was injured when she and her children took him for a walk at Bedford Park last month.
After he spotted another dog, he burst free of his lead and when Yaz chased after him she slipped and landed on him with the pup suffering a fractured skull and a bleed on the brain.
She launched a desperate appeal to raise £3,000 to help pay for her pet’s lifesaving treatment after the accident.
With Tyson’s bills spiralling and the family surviving on just one income, she set up a fundraising page on Facebook, ‘Baby Tyson’ and a Go Fund Me page, also ‘Baby Tyson’ to pay for his medical expenses. They also raffled off her young son’s quad bike.
She said: “We are so pleased, Tyson is doing so well and is back to his normal bouncy self with his symptoms nearly gone!
“Nearly four weeks on from his ordeal, Tyson is thriving. He's out of his pen now and free to roam, he is not walking in circles, he is jumping up at us, back to eating normally again and back to our little hyperactive puppy we had before all of this.
“We have already paid £500 so far but unfortunately we have been left with a £3,500 bill – plus more scans to come - so I am still trying to raise as much as I can in order to pay as much of as possible.
“I want to thank everyone who has helped so far, the support we have been shown has been absolutely amazing.”
