MP Rosie Cooper has welcomed the provision of Knife Surrender Bins in Skelmersdale following a Champion article.
Last week the Champion reported that 71 knives had been left in the designated knife bins within the town.
There are two Knife Surrender Bins at Tanhouse and Digmoor Community Centres.
The addresses are: Tanhouse Community Centre, Ennerdale, Skelmersdale WN86AN and Digmoor Community Centre, Birleywood, Skelmersdale WN89BW.
West Lancashire MP Rosie Cooper commented: “I welcome the police provision of Knife Surrender Bins on the Digmoor and Tanhouse estates which will encourage the safe, anonymous surrendering of knives.
“This amnesty has been very successful in the past and I would strongly encourage residents to rid their homes and the streets of dangerous knives. Bin the knives and save lives!”
The knife bins have been placed across the county and there aim is to provide a safe place to dispose of unwanted knives and sharp items.
There are a total of 16 new safe and secure containers and they have been placed in busy, well-lit areas across the county and is hoped they will be easy to get to as part of the police’s work to keep knives off the streets.
