OLD Roan Pre-School has been given a revamp after they opened a new extension and an all-weather playground.
Owners Julie Curry and Vicky Finlay wanted to expand the premises by using the discretionary business grant from Sefton Council and by applying to the Duchy of Lancaster grant fund.
They used the money to extend the school, based in Aintree Youth & Community Centre, and can now operate safely with social distancing in mind.
Molyneux ward Labour Councillors Marion Atkinson and Paula Murphy acted as ‘referees’ to the bid and both were delighted when it was approved.
Julie said: “Our ambition was always to grow the business and we had started to map out how we were going to afford to do this. We realised as soon as Covid began to have an impact, that this needed to be a reality sooner rather than later, so we got to work.”
Vicky added: “We are truly grateful to Paula, Marion, Sefton Council and the Duchy of Lancaster for their support not only financially but also for helping us through the process.
“Not only will it secure the future of the Old Roan Pre-School but will help us keep our staff in jobs while also providing this invaluable service to local mums and dads.”
