DONATIONS have poured in from the community after vandals damaged two tents set up for the 1st Lydiate Scouts to hold activities during the lockdown.
Explorer leader Lee Allwood said: “With the support of Lydiate Parish Hall, we had erected two tents on the field outside their HQ to help deliver activities for their 130 members during lockdown, with Scouting restrictions meaning it was safer to deliver activities outside.
“We had successfully delivered a number of evenings to young people, which were really well received as we try and keep young people engaged during a time when things are uncertain.
“Sometime on Saturday, November 7, the tents were damaged by vandals meaning one in particular was beyond repair and needed taking down.
“Following a post on Maghull Community Facebook Page, a Go Fund Me page was setup and within three hours the community had donated over £1000 to replace the tent.
“All the leaders in the Group have been overwhelmed by the support shown by members of our community. The money raised will mean our work with young people in the community during these challenging times can continue. The messages of support and encouragement has been amazing and highlights what these activities mean to our members but also how the community of Maghull and Lydiate can support each other.
“Thank you to anyone who donated or sent a message of support, now more than ever we need our community supporting each other - this is a fantastic example of what a great community Lydiate and Maghull can be.”
