AN actor from Melling is starring as the lead in the feature film Out of Time, which is set for release today (Friday, November 13) on Amazon Video Prime.
Bootle-born Jamie Cousins stars in the film, directed by Leon Lopez, which features a host of recognisable faces including another Sefton resident X Factor's Marcus Collins. The film explores gender dysphoria in children from the parents’ perspective.
The film tells the story of a young person who is struggling with the body they were born into. However, the focus swings between the young person and their parents as they struggle to understand and accept the choices of their 11 year old child. With Liverpool as a backdrop, they tackle the fragile masculinity of a hyper masculine world and choosing to make his father an MMA fighter was a bold choice by the writer to push this even further.
With a diverse cast and crew, featuring 43 intern students from Liverpool John Moore’s and Edge Hill University, some of whom are transgender themselves, the film was ‘a roller-coaster ride of emotions and a huge learning curve for all involved.’
Director Leon Lopez said: “I was honoured to be approached by Producer Michelle Billington and writer and actress Kerry Williams to work on this script.
“As an LGBT director, with a lot of my work focusing on issues within the community, I was very much interested in telling this extremely important and very sensitive story.
“With the transgender community being heavily featured in recent mainstream media we wanted to tell a story that mainstream television and film have been afraid to talk about.
“My job was to work out how to place this story in a context, in which I myself, as a cisgender male could relate to, whilst keeping an open mind on matters that I could never imagine to understand.”
