YOUNGSTERS at St John Bosco Catholic Primary School were delighted to meet former England goalkeeper Chris Kirkland last week as part of the ‘I will’ programme being run by the Liverpool FC Foundation.
Danny MacAreavy, headteacher at the Green Lane school said: “Our Year 3 and Year 4 classes have been taking part in the ‘I will’ programme, which aims to encourage young children to identify areas within their communities where they can help others and ultimately make a difference.
“The children's class teachers Miss Briscoe and Miss Rogers commented upon the positive impact that the weekly programme has had on the children.
“As part of their work the children enjoyed a visit from ex Liverpool and England International goalkeeper Chris Kirkland, who helped the children focus their ideas.
“Chris was most complimentary about the children's manners and engagement and said that he wished that he had gone to a school with as many fantastic sporting facilities.
“He is pictured with the two school team goalkeepers who are both desperate to get the St John Bosco Football team competing again as soon as possible – and they want to retain our league title from last year!”
