More than £1.2m distributed to households who are most in need

More than £1.2m distributed to households who are most in need

by Henry James (December 2020)

THE county council has said that more than £1.2m of help has been distributed in two weeks to households across Lancashire who are most in need this winter.

Lancashire County Council has been allocated £3.9m by the Government to help those who are struggling to afford food as well as household and utility bills.

The fund is aimed at families eligible for benefit related free school meals, vulnerable families with pre-school children and other vulnerable families, looked after children (16 and 17 year olds) in semi-independent provision, care leavers and other vulnerable households.

It is set to run across the winter, until the end of March 2021.

Councillor Geoff Driver, leader of the council, said: "I am delighted that so much help has already been distributed to those who need it most.

"While the scheme runs throughout the winter, we felt it was important that help was made available to as many people as possible before the festive season began.

"This fund will not only help families whose children qualify for free school meals, but also provide help to families with pre-school children, care leavers, older looked after children and vulnerable households without children, who may be struggling.

"Our staff will continue to work hard over the coming months to ensure those in most need receive help from this scheme."

The Government has also made a range of other support available to people since the pandemic began.
