Maghull Radio has been saved thanks to kindhearted donations from Champion readers.
We reported at the start of January how their broadcasting licence and insurance was due to expire in February and they were desperately trying to fundraise to continue broadcasting to the community.
Dave Hughes, who is a DJ at the station, gave us an update this week to say since the appeal they have been given £640, which means they can buy a new licence and carry on air for the next 12 months.
Dave said: “Thanks to the Champion the sum donated, as of to today, is £640, which means that we can now buy our broadcasting licence and continue on air for another 12 months.
“The appeal will run until the 28th of this month and I hope that then there will be sufficient funds to help in some way to purchase a new mixing desk.”
Maghull Radio is Maghull’s first and only radio station. It broadcasts 24/7 with a wide variety of shows to the community. Their programmes include features, and talk shows including, input from community groups such as: the Scout Association and community champions. There is also a what’s on guide for families, insights into local history, and shows on young people’s issues.
The station began broadcasting on February 17 2014, and it is planned, developed and run by The Maghull Radio team.
