Council's housing firm forges ahead with developments

Tawd Valley Developments (TVD) is continuing to press ahead with the ambitious plans of West Lancashire Borough Council to deliver quality homes for the people of the borough.

The company, owned by West Lancashire Borough Council, now has four active development sites in Skelmersdale, located at Eskbank, Fairstead and Brierfield and now, Northfield.

The Northfield development is the latest project to 'break ground'. Work has just started on site to build 27 new council homes that will be available to rent from the council and will welcome their new tenants in 2022.

It was also recently announced that plans for a further 50 council homes were submitted by TVD for a site in Fairlie in Skelmersdale town centre, where a mix of 12 one-bed apartments, eight bungalows, 22 two-bed houses and eight three-bed houses has been proposed.

Councillor Ian Moran, Leader of West Lancashire Borough Council, said: "The long-term housing crisis in this country has meant many people have been without secure and suitable accommodation for far too long.

"The lack of council-built homes has exacerbated this problem. That's why we took the decision to create Tawd Valley Developments and build our own homes for rent and sale."

"Few local authorities have committed to tackle their housing issues in such a direct way, and having four active sites in the Borough, with more due online in the future is testament to our determination to deliver the affordable, quality homes our residents deserve.

"This is not only great news for those who will make these new houses their homes; any profits will be ploughed back into the local community, so these initiatives will benefit everyone in West Lancashire."

This is the latest milestone for TVD who recently welcomed Mark Kitts as Managing Director and Danielle Ashworth as Head of Development. Both Mark and Danielle are field-leaders in the housing and regeneration sectors.

Tawd Valley Developments is a company formed by West Lancashire Borough Council to help it carry out projects such as building new Council homes. The Council is the only shareholder and any financial surplus made by Tawd Valley Developments will be returned to the authority to be reinvested in the local community.
