DETECTIVES investigating a “horrific assault” in Skelmersdale have released an image of the man attacked as they continue to appeal for information.
Police were called at about 7.30am on Sunday, April 4 following a report a man had been found with serious injuries near Ferndale, Birch Green. The male had been making his way to work before being targeted. Enquiries suggest the incident took place near to Firbeck.
The man, aged 37, was taken to Aintree Hospital and is now recovering at home.
An investigation was launched and enquiries are continuing to identify the offenders.
Detectives have arrested two people on suspicion of attempted murder.
A 17-year-old and 19-year-old from Skelmersdale were arrested last week and have been bailed pending further enquiries.
Det Sgt Diane Higham, of Skelmersdale CID, said: “This was a horrific assault which has left a man in a very serious condition in hospital.
“The level of violence used is frankly obscene and the victim is lucky to be alive. We hope this image, which shows the severity of the injuries inflicted, will prompt members of the community to come forward.
“I would also appeal to anyone who may have information which could help us piece together what has happened and to help identify the offenders to contact us.”
Police have said extra police patrols have been in the area. A police spokesman said: “Please feel free to approach officers if you have any information or concerns.”
