AN NHS worker from Skelmersdale has been voted Nurse of the Year for the Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust.
Paige Deegan, 24, has worked at Wigan hospital since graduating and was recently appointed Sister of the Ambulatory care unit.
The Registered Nurse of the Year 2021 award is organised by the WWL NHS Trust was presented to Paige by the head of nursing.

Paige told the Champion: “I am extremely humbled and grateful to receive such an honourable award and I really want to thank all my colleagues who voted for me.
“I didn't expect to even come close after all of the hard work and dedication shown by all nursing staff across the hospital over the past year facing the pandemic, they have all been amazing.
“As a nurse caring for patients comes first and this was why I pursued a career in nursing.
“To be awarded ‘Registered Nurse of the Year 2021’ was an amazing achievement at the age of 24 and it’s something I never, ever expected.”
