PROPOSALS have been submitted to change the former Iceland store in Ormskirk town centre into student accommodation with small retail spaces on part of the ground floor.

The application, which has been submitted by Vici Property Ltd, would see 23 bedrooms created at the building at 6 Aughton Street.

If plans get the go-ahead it would see part of the rear section of the ground floor, first floor and second floor from the closed shop turned into 23 student accommodation bedrooms.

The units would comprise of three studio bedrooms, a one bed flat, two three-bed flats and three four-bed flats with communal kitchens.

The existing shop floor at ground level would be split into two shop/commercial units and the shopfronts would be remodelled.

A statement on behalf of the applicant Vici Property Ltd states: “The applicant has over 20 years experience in managing student accommodation within the local area.

“They have an excellent relationship with Edge Hill University and tenants are aware of the high standards expected.

“There is a 24hour dedicated phone line to deal with any issues or emergencies and any tenancies not adhered to will result in disciplinary action.”

The statement adds: “The scale and architecture is appropriate for the location and the layout of the accommodation, together with the associated facilities provided, will create a positive and welcoming living experience environment.”

Edge Hill University has a total of 13,835 students according to 2018-19 figures.
