A BOAT building company based in Aintree made its television debut on the Channel 4 documentary series My Floating Home.
Swan Boat Builders, on Wareing Road, was tasked by customer Colin to build him a high-spec narrowboat called ‘Tickin Along’.
The 47 minute episode showed viewers how the £130,000 boat was made from scratch and the various steps along the way.
It proved to be a challenge for the team at Swan, which included having to finish the boat in only ten weeks.
Some of the features that had to be fitted inside Tickin Along included a lounge area, a 12V full-size fridge and freezer, a slim-line gas hob, a sparkly quartz worktop that doubles as a breakfast bar, a walk through bathroom and even a stove!
Swan Boat Builders was founded in 2017 by Ian Kinvig, who has many years of experience in boat building and cabinet making.
For the first three years, Swan Boat Builders concentrated on building narrowboats, but then they began focusing on wide beam boats.
Ian said on the show: “All I’ve really done since I left school was build boats. I know them inside out. I know how they go together, I know what works and I know what doesn’t work! I’m pretty good at what I do!”
Swan Boat Builders will be showcasing at the Crick Boat Show, Britain’s biggest inland water festival, due to take place next month at Crick Marina.
