A VISITOR to Formby was shocked and disappointed to find the Fisherman's Path public footpath closed for a golf tournament.
Keen walker Stan Hesketh, from Waterloo, said: “Like many other people from Sefton and beyond, I am a regular user of this path and I am disappointed that a commercial event has been used to suspend public assess to this lovely area in the middle of the summer!”
A spokesperson for Sefton Council responded: “The footpath is currently subject to a Temporary Footpath Closure Order. The organisers of the event being held at Formby Golf Club made an application for the temporary closure of the Footpath, which was agreed by the Council and is in place from 00:01 on Monday, July 26 to 6pm on Monday, August 2.
“Other options were considered however the temporary closure was deemed the most appropriate to ensure the safety of both the public and players during the event
