AINTREE Pensioners Club had ball after they met up for their first bingo night since the pandemic.
The members were delighted to resume their weekly bingo session at Holy Rosary Club after 16 months.
They were also given the news that a £500 grant had been secured by Cllr Marion Atkinson to help them organise a ‘Turkey and Tinsel’ trip.
Bobbie Jennings, the group organiser, was delighted with the support and agreed the £500 was a much needed boost.
She said: “We are grateful to Marion she has supported us for many years. We will use the money to help toward the cost of travel and it’s already starting to feel like our club is getting back to some sort of normality.”
Cllr Atkinson added: “Since being elected for Molyneux Ward ten years ago I have made it a priority to try to combat social isolation for elderly residents. That’s why myself and Cllr Paula Murphy hold monthly health and wellbeing sessions and regular film nights to make sure people get out and mix. Covid put a stop to this so that’s why I’m determined to help support groups like this.
“I was also happy to secure the funding from the ward budget for the group to get out and about on days out and to make up for those days they missed last year. Paula and I hope they have a great time and have reassured the group we will look for further funding to help the group enjoy Christmas celebrations.”
