Junior Football League chairman thanks teams and parents for their support during ‘difficult season’

by Henry James (August 2021)

THE chairman of Skelmersdale Junior Football League, Joe Nelson, has issued a heartfelt message to all players and parents involved in the organisation which looks forward to the new season and thanks them for their support during 2020-21.

Despite the pandemic, Skelmersdale Junior Football League were able to finish a full programme for the season 2020-21.

Joe said: “The season 2020-21 was a difficult season, not only for the committee but for the teams and the parents as well. We look forward to seeing you all again next season.

“Last season games had to be postponed or cancelled due to the national lockdown, and because of the number of restrictions imposed on us. The restrictions have included: allowing only one parent to attend matches with no other siblings permitted; constant cleaning of the equipment; and social distancing.

“These were all of an inconvenience, but necessary to enable us to get the kids playing once again after such a long and uncertain lay off.

“However, despite all this, the league were able to complete a full programme and I would like to thank everyone involved for their patience, understanding and the ability to get on with it.

“Congratulations to all those who were successful in the competitive divisions and to all those who were successful in the cup competitions. A special congratulation and heartfelt thanks goes to all those teams who were not as successful as they would have liked, but committed themselves week in and week out.

“My thanks also go to my committee: Lee Scott; Jon Trenwith; Peter Brierly; Jamie O'Rourke; Billy Jones; Danny Skelhorn; and Steve McIver.

“Thank you also to all the hard work put in by the managers, the referees and last, but certainly not least, the parents for coming down to support their children.”
