RESIDENTS in Flordon, Birch Green, have been celebrating the estate’s 50th birthday.
At an event on Saturday, August 7 people were also able to mark ‘ many milestones’ which were not able to be celebrated properly during the Covid lockdowns.
Organiser Sheila Kelly said: “It was very wet and windy, but we made the best of it and everyone had an enjoyable day. It was a fun day.
“After everything that has gone on during the last 16 months, people have not been able to celebrate family occasions, such as birthdays , properly. So we decided to hold this event. Everyone brought their tables out onto the street, and games were organised for the children. There were flags up from one end of the street to the other.
“There is a terrific community spirit in Flordon and everyone looks out for one another. Due to the design of the estate you can stand on your doorstep and talk to people across from you.
“There are a few people here from when the street was built. But people who had lived on the street and left, came back to join in the celebrations.”
On the day, Carla Kelly also had her hair shaved for Macmillan nurses, and raised £553.
