AN Aughton church is hosting a Macmillan Coffee Morning to help raise funds for people affected by cancer.
Christ Church Ministry Centre, on Long Lane, will host its annual fundraiser on Friday, September 24, from 10am to 12noon.
Parishioners, volunteers who work at the Christ Church Cafe, Macmillan service users and the local community will bake and donate cakes to try and raise vital funds for the cancer charity.
Before the pandemic the church hosted Macmillan’s Aughton Cancer Support Group, which was aimed at anyone affected by cancer, either directly or as a carer, colleague, family member or friend, in Aughton, Ormskirk and the surrounding area.
It is hoped the support group can restart again soon and is one of the reasons the coffee morning organisers - Lisa Matthews, Vicky Sime, Rev Sarah O’Donoghue and Jodie Taylor - are holding their fundraiser.
Jodie Taylor, Macmillan’s Information and Support Services Assistant in West Lancs, explains: “Macmillan is working tirelessly to do whatever it takes for people with cancer at a time when disruption caused by Covid-19 means demand for the charity’s services is high, while its income is down.
“Nearly all (98%) of Macmillan’s funding comes directly from donations, so it’s never been more important to host a Coffee Morning like this, to help raise vital funds to ensure Macmillan can continue to deliver the services that people living with cancer desperately need, now and in the future.”
