FORMER Liverpool and Everton stars Ian Callaghan and Kevin Sheedy opened the refreshment and changing room facilities at the Sandy Lane Playing field in Lydiate.
And Lydiate Parish Council was so grateful it was decided to name the facilites in their honour so ‘Cally’s’ café and the Kevin Sheedy changing rooms will be open on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the football season.
Kevin said: “What a pleasure to see the improvements for grassroots football.
“Sandy Lane has some of the best facilities around now, I wish it was like this in my day.”
Ian said: “I am overjoyed that the café has been named after me.
“I have lived in Lydiate for many years and regularly go to the park to watch the football and now I will be able to have a cuppa while I’m there.”
Meanwhile the council is restarting its community activities after 18 months at Lydiate Village Centre on Lambshear Lane.
