SEFTON Council has issued an Approval Notice for a massive development in Maghull which would see the knocking down of existing buildings to the north of School Lane and the building of 855 homes, an older persons housing scheme, a mixed-use local centre and public open space.
The application was approved at a Planning Committee in March 2021 subject to conditions and a legal agreement.
The Approval Notice for this application is subject to conditions.
An application relating to the development site to the south for 841 homes was allowed on appeal on February 22 of this year.
Countryside Properties and Persimmon Homes were given the go-ahead for the development, despite objections from Bill Esterson MP and local councillors Patrick McKinley and Yvonne Sayers.
They say a road, which would connect the site direct to the new M58 Junction 1, should be built to reduce the impact of site traffic on residents living nearby.
The leader of Sefton Council, Councillor Ian Maher, was critical of the proposals when they were received by the council in 2017.
At the time he said: “Sadly, there has been no meaningful dialogue with communities or local councillors before these plans were submitted, which smacks to me of arrogance and a desire to ride roughshod over the views of local people.”
According to the Land East of Maghull Masterplan Document, the “vision for Land East of Maghull is to create a place for people to live, work and enjoy.”
This includes: “Developing a broad mix of housing types and tenures to cater for a range of local needs, while maintaining the character of the local area; Providing a high quality modern Business Park creating new jobs for Sefton; Catering for people’s day-to-day needs with a range of local retail, commercial and community facilities; and Encouraging recreation and healthy living through the creation of a new park, areas of open space and footpaths/cycleways.”
