Prayer boats delivered to world leaders in Glasgow

CHURCH-goers in Southport created ‘prayer boats’ which ‘sailed’ all the way to Glasgow to send an important message to world leaders about climate change.

The symbolic paper boats, mean ‘we are all in the same storm but not in the same boat’, were delivered to Scotland during the COP26 climate change conference.

A spokesperson for the church groups said: “This highlights the way people in poorer countries are suffering more from climate change than those in the West. The boats were carried in a relay march called ‘Rising to the Moment’ starting at Christ Church in Southport via St John’s Church in Ainsdale and on to Formby, Hightown and Crosby.”

Last month awalkers from all over Merseyside converged on Liverpool Cathedral for a service to bless the boats and pray for climate justice.

The boats were then taken to Glasgow and made into an artwork where they were displayed throughout the city to highlight the need to ‘share our resources’.
